Nokia n95 Rotate Me!

By andy | January 22, 2008

Nokia n95My last post saw a few applications mentioned for the Nokia n95 which make use of the accelerometer, now the Nokia n95 certainly isn’t an Apple iPhone, however the screen (orientation) does turn, through 90 degrees to use the phone on it’s side. This has to be done manually – by sliding the screen the opposite way to normal, revealing the media buttons.

Apple iPhone (it’s not a n95)This is all good and well – but the Apple iPhone does this automatically, so what’s needed? Some genius to take advantage of the accelerometer and create an application to automate the screen orientation process…. and RotateMe is born! A nifty little application which I actually find useful… I wonder what will be next?

Of course you can download the RotateMe application from here, however it is rather complicated to install – the version I have uploaded is the unsigned beta version. This means by default it will not install until it has been signed, the easiest way to do this is request a developer certificate from Symbian Signed. Basically this will give you a 6 month certificate for testing (on a single IMEI). Now this is complicated, I suggest folk wait until the signed version of the software is available!
